While supplements and Minerals are recommended to be given year round for your animals, the wintertime is a time where emphasis is needed. In the summer we all feel the drain of essential nutrients and the need for continued hydration while combating the heat, as we should do! The benefits of the mineral supplements are directly responsible for replenishing those lost while sweating and expending energy.
In the wintertime, we sometimes lose sight of the importance and our diligence should be sustained this time of year just like in the summer. Not only is energy still being expended just maintaining adequate body temperatures in the cold and damp, but the natural source of lots of essential nutrients which is the pasture and roughage your animals enjoy is currently unavailable. This means that all of their Essential nutrients and minerals need to be supplemented!
Here at the Co-op we of course have all the minerals and supplements you will need for taking care of your animals of all kinds!

White Salt Kiln Dried (Solar):

Cobalt Iodized Salt:

We have numerous specific supplements as well for some animal species which include more than just the mineral supplementation but electrolytes and vitamins as well:
Another popular option is the Himalayan Salt which is an unrefined option of rock salt found only in the Himalayas and the salt flats of Utah. These offer large amounts of nutrients like Trace Minerals while being very durable and long lasting in their natural state!
Horses
Goats:
Livestock options for vitamin and electrolyte supplements:
Poultry also need supplements which are often included into their layer feed. There are always times where a nutrient boost is beneficial to your chickens. Going into laying after a long winter or during a heat wave or a cold spell, all of these are just a few examples of taxing physical demands on your flock. Providing additional supplementation will give them a jump start to stay healthy and vibrant!
Pets:
Dogs and cats can benefit from the increased supplementation of vitamins and minerals and electrolytes as well. They get sick and lose weight and switch foods and all of these are very common occurrences that would make them depleted of these nutrients. This is a great option, especially for litters and young pups/kittens or older dogs/cats!
