Calming products are a great thing to have on hand at all times but especially in the summer. With lots of traveling, visitors, fireworks and parties this time of year lends itself to a lot of anxiety for our pets. Below is an extensive list of the calming products we carry at the Snohomish and Monroe Co-op and what makes these products work so great! Looking at the ingredients and dosages it will make it easy to compare which product is a great fit for you and your pets.
Thunder Ease
Calming Diffuser: This product uses apasine which is a pheromone given off by lactating mother dogs to their pups resulting in a calming and comforting sensation. This is given in a 2% ratio in the diffuser. Diffuser required for use.
Calming Spray: This product uses apasine which is a pheromone given off by lactating mother dogs to their pups resulting in a calming and comforting sensation. This is given in a 2% ratio in the spray and should be sprayed 15 minutes before and every 4-5 hours during time needed.
Calming Collar: This product uses apasine which is a pheromone given off by lactating mother dogs to their pups resulting in a calming and comforting sensation. This is 5% composition in the collar that slowly releases and creates the calming effect for your dog.
Ark Naturals Happy Traveler Calming Product
This brand chooses to address calming through 4 active ingredients. Valerian is an herb that is commonly used as a sedative. Chamomile is also calming and is a mild tranquilizer with sleep inducing qualities. L-Tryptophan is an amino acid that is metabolized as melatonin which is calming. Lastly is St. John’s Wort which is a flower that has been used since the Greeks to treat many things including ADHD and Anxiety. These chews can be a great option and a great way to give treats.
Tablets: These capsules contain 100mg of Valerian, Chamomile, L-Tryptophan and 50mg of St John’s Wort.
Soft Chews: These soft chews contain 40mg of Valerian, Chamomile, L-Tryptophan and 20mg of St John’s Wort. Feed 1 Chew for every 10 lbs of bodyweight.
HomeoPet Fireworks
This product uses traditional homeopathic remedies to treat anxiety. The First active ingredient is wolfsbane which is thought to be able to reduce heart rates but is also a highly toxic plant in high doses.Arsenicum Album is used as it is thought to reduce anxiety and restlessness and is generally safe as most if not all original arsenic is removed by the refining process. It uses Avena which is an oat extract used to lower blood sugar levels. Belladonna is a type of nightshade plant but is thought to treat motion sickness in low doses.
This product can be used up to 4 full doses every 15 minutes. The Doses depend on the size of the animal but the average dog over 20 pounds would take 10 drops per dose in at least 8 oz. Of water or on their food.
Tomlyn Relax & Calm
This product is soft chews that use 66mg of L-Tryptophan per chew which is an amino acid that is metabolized as melatonin which is calming. 39.6mg Chamomile is also used which is calming and is a mild tranquilizer with sleep inducing qualities. These should be given in a ratio of 1 chew per 10 pounds of weight.
Nulo Calming Chews
These soft chews are a great option that use Hemp Seed Oil, Chamomile, L-Tryptophan, and Ashwagandha Root. 250mg of Hemp Seed oil is in each chew which is a source of Omega which Nulo includes in all of their products. 80mg of Chamomile per chew is used which is calming and is a mild tranquilizer with sleep inducing qualities. 50mg of L-Tryptophan per chew, which is an amino acid that is metabolized as melatonin which is calming. 30mg of Ashwagandha Root per chew and is known to reduce stress and anxiety while reducing blood sugar levels. These treats are to be given in a ratio of 1 chew for every 25 lbs of body weight.

Quietex II Pellets: 2500mg of L-Tryptophan per scoop.
Quietex II Paste: This paste also has 2500mg of L-Tryptophan per tube.
Via Calm: This product 1000mg of L-Tryptophan per scoop which is an amino acid that is metabolized as melatonin which is calming.
